The Background
Removing a Hidden Risk Before a Sale
A farm in Biggar was being prepared for sale, and an old, redundant petrol tank remained on the site. Disused fuel tanks are a real liability - they can still hold residual fuel and flammable vapour, and they can be a sticking point during a property sale or survey.
The owner needed the tank dealt with properly so the site was safe and the sale could proceed without complication. Simply leaving it in place was not an option, and removing it entirely was not necessary for this site.
Our team first cleaned the tank to remove any residual fuel and vapour, eliminating the fire and explosion risk. We then filled the tank with concrete, permanently taking it out of service. This is a recognised, safe way to decommission a tank in situ - leaving the ground stable and the hazard gone for good, ready for the new owners.
